Invadopodia
نویسنده
چکیده
century. A sewage system created by Victorian engineers was a remarkable achievement that began the big clean-up. The now much cleaner river is once again home to many species alongside the seahorse: the young of marine species such as flounder and bass have been discovered in nursery sites up to 20 km inland. But the sewage system that has done so much to restore the river’s cleanliness still faces a problem: during summer storms with their torrential downpours, the system can in some years become overwhelmed with sewage which enters the river. As the storms usually coincide with periods when the river flow is at its lowest, the sewage has a short-term but devastating effect on river species. But the discovery of remarkable new species such as the shortsnouted seahorse should help to bolster efforts to ensure the river is clean all year round.

Phosphoinositide 3-kinase signaling pathway mediated by p110α regulates invadopodia formation
Invadopodia are extracellular matrix-degrading protrusions formed by invasive cancer cells that are thought to function in cancer invasion. Although many invadopodia components have been identified, signaling pathways that link extracellular stimuli to invadopodia formation remain largely unknown. We investigate the role of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) signaling during invadopodia formation...
متن کاملCalpain 2 and PTP1B function in a novel pathway with Src to regulate invadopodia dynamics and breast cancer cell invasion
Invasive cancer cells form dynamic adhesive structures associated with matrix degradation called invadopodia. Calpain 2 is a calcium-dependent intracellular protease that regulates adhesion turnover and disassembly through the targeting of specific substrates such as talin. Here, we describe a novel function for calpain 2 in the formation of invadopodia and in the invasive abilities of breast c...
متن کاملExtravasation during bladder cancer metastasis requires cortactin‑mediated invadopodia formation.
Invasive cancer cells form the filamentous actin‑based membrane protrusions known as invadopodia. Invadopodia are thought to play a critical role in cancer cell invasion and metastasis due to their ability to degrade the extracellular matrix. The present study assessed whether invadopodia formation is essential in extravasation of circulating bladder cancer cells and lung metastasis. To analyze...
متن کاملExtracellular Matrix Rigidity Promotes Invadopodia Activity
Invadopodia are actin-rich subcellular protrusions with associated proteases used by cancer cells to degrade extracellular matrix (ECM) [1]. Molecular components of invadopodia include branched actin-assembly proteins, membrane trafficking proteins, signaling proteins, and transmembrane proteinases [1]. Similar structures exist in nontransformed cells, such as osteoclasts and dendritic cells, b...
متن کاملAutomated analysis of invadopodia dynamics in live cells
Multiple cell types form specialized protein complexes that are used by the cell to actively degrade the surrounding extracellular matrix. These structures are called podosomes or invadopodia and collectively referred to as invadosomes. Due to their potential importance in both healthy physiology as well as in pathological conditions such as cancer, the characterization of these structures has ...
متن کاملOncogenic Src requires a wild-type counterpart to regulate invadopodia maturation.
The proto-oncogene Src tyrosine kinase (Src) is overexpressed in human cancers and is currently a target of anti-invasive therapies. Activation of Src is an essential catalyst of invadopodia production. Invadopodia are cellular structures that mediate extracellular matrix (ECM) proteolysis, allowing invasive cell types to breach confining tissue barriers. Invadopodia assembly and maturation is ...
